Hedge Cactus

The Hedge Cactus is a great option if you have a lot of space in your yard to add some architectural interest.

A columnar, slow growing cactus, the Hedge Cactus branches from the base, up to 30 feet tall, and will clump up to 15 feet in diameter. The stem is blue-green in color when young, becoming duller green with age, up to 8 inches across, with 4 – 6 ribs which are divided into segments. Usually there are no spines on the younger stems, the spines grow progressively as the stem ages.

The white flowers are very large, up to 12 inches long and up to 6 inches  in diameter, followed by large, egg shaped fruits which are red when ripe.
