Phoenix Landscaping Tip #5: Use fences and shrubs to reduce water losses caused by wind evaporation. Reducing the amount of wind that crosses your pool will reduce wind evaporation.
Phoenix Landscaping Tip #6: When using a hose to fill your pool, make sure to keep an observant eye on the water level. Forgetting to turn off your hose can be costly. Pool owners are advised to use a hose timer to limit the amount of water used. Hose timers can be purchased at most garden centers and hardware stores.
Phoenix Landscaping Tip #7: Repair all swimming pool leaks. Pool owners should check their pool regularly for leaks or cracks and make the proper repairs immediately. Even an unsubstantial leak in your pool equipment or pool structure could represent a substantial waste of water. In fact, approximately 100,000 gallons of water per year can be lost due to an inch a day leak in an average swimming pool. If your water level reduces by more than one inch per day, investigate your pool and equipment for problems, especially the pool’s auto fill devices.
Phoenix Landscaping Tip #8: Use pool covers when possible. An uncovered average sized (16 ft. X 32 ft.) pool loses roughly one inch of water a week due to evaporation. Roughly 90 percent of water loss caused by evaporation can be prevented through the use of a pool cover. The average pool owner can save nearly 20,000 gallons of water annually with a pool cover. Pool covers can also prevent heat loss and save you money on chemicals and your heating bills.
